The evolutionary diagram used by biologists forms the basis for the symbolism in this work, posing a question about the progress of humankind. Is it absurd for us to reinvent the wheel or are we simply not thinking outside the box? The army men figures are anchored to dance steps, conjuring the greater spirits of evolutionary leaps through dance just as Native Americans danced for rain.
The installation consisted of 3 small panels set within a reclaimed wooden frame. They were accompanied by 2 additional pieces: Swing and Convoy. This group of pieces was created in response to the first Reinventing the Wheel exhibition on leap day, February 29, 2008.
