reinventing the wheel (2008)

the space - a 7,000 sf warehouse in barrio logan. the concept - bring a large group of artists, designers and bike builders together to reinvent the wheel.

the concept - we assume the wheel cannot be improved upon, and therefore we do not try to improve it. can the mundane task of trying to improve something perfect serve as inspiration for evolving design and life? Can we redefine what perfection means so that we may reinvent the wheel with results more suited for our time on this planet?

exhibition details included custom-stenciled repurposed wooden crates from the museum of contemporary art san diego, used as staging for the bicycles in the show; collaboration with local community to organize a group bike ride of about 100 to arrive at the event on opening night; a reclaimed parking lot used as bicycle parking; customized temporary ceiling mounted stage lighting allowed for a complete transformation from a former marine supply warehouse into a beautiful space for the viewer to experience art and bicycles.
